From ACL to MVP: Tantoy Ferrer of the UST Growling Tigresses

“Nothing is impossible as long as you can keep fighting. As long as someone believes in you, fight—even if your opponent is skilled or undefeated."

Tantoy Ferrer’s journey with the UST Growling Tigresses is a story of grit and heart. After a devastating ACL injury, many doubted if she could return to top form. But Tantoy refused to let her setback define her. Her determination paid off when she played a pivotal role in dethroning a 7-time champion, earning her the UAAP Finals MVP title.

For Tantoy, a fierce and feared competitor in the UAAP, success isn’t just about accolades.

"I don’t really care about the awards. I play to give my 100% to my coach and my teammates. Awards are just bonuses for the hard work and sacrifices I put in."

Today, Tantoy stands as a symbol of resilience — not just for her team, but for anyone striving to rise after a fall. This episode is hosted by guest correspondent Melissa Newsome, a UAAP broadcast analyst and former ADMU Lady Eagles athlete. Melissa pitched the story because she remembered Tantoy as one of the toughest people to play against in the league, and whose story deserved to be told. No matter what team you root for, or even play for, Tantoy’s grit is undeniable.

Listen to Tantoy’s story now and discover what it truly takes to defy the odds.
