Kaila Napolis: From garage training to gold medals
"Being a Go Hard Girl means giving your best in everything you do—not just in sport, but in life."
Kaila Napolis’s journey in jiu-jitsu began as the only woman training in a modest garage setup. Today, she's a black belt at Checkmat Manila and a gold medalist who has proudly represented the Philippines on the world stage. In this episode of the Go Hard Girls podcast, guest correspondent Marga Jimenez explores how Kaila's perseverance and love for the sport have shaped her remarkable career and character.
As one of the trailblazers for women’s jiu-jitsu in the Philippines, Kaila faced countless challenges along the way. Far from being disheartened, this taught her that success isn’t immediate, but dedication pays off:
“It won’t be every day that you lose. Yes, there are many challenges, but you can take it. Surround yourself with a community that will help you grow and achieve your goal.”
Today, Kaila inspires others to go beyond their perceived limits, whether they’re training in the gym or tackling obstacles in life. Her story embodies the essence of a Go Hard Girl—pushing past the boundaries, discovering that “kaya ko pala” (“I can do it”) moment, and redefining what’s possible.
"Jiu-jitsu helped me discover my strengths, what I can do—that I’m actually strong, that I’m capable of defeating a world champion or guys who seemed stronger than me. I can do it even if I’m scared. That’s what I discovered. That no matter how challenging things are, no matter what challenges come your way, through work ethic and hard work, you can reach your goal."
Tune in to hear Kaila’s powerful story and discover what it truly means to go hard in every aspect of life.
