Redefining Success with Cam Rodriguez
"Success doesn't always look like you're in control…it's also about surrendering and letting things be.”
After making history by helping the Filipinas qualify for their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup, Cam Rodriguez faced an unexpected setback: she was cut from the national team lineup just months before the competition. What seemed like a devastating blow became a pivotal point in her journey, pushing her to reconsider what success truly means when life doesn't go as planned.
Forced to confront the loss of a lifelong dream, Cam learned that resilience isn’t just about the outward strength; it’s also about allowing herself to feel, reflect, and grow. For her, success became less about external validation and more about inner strength and acceptance.
Though she didn’t get to compete in the World Cup, she found joy in spending time with friends and family, and hosting watch parties for her teammates as they made history:
"That's the beauty of having a village with you. They'll sit right next to you. And whenever you're ready, you can continue walking again."
Now back with the national team and a mental performance coach for collegiate athletes, Cam channels her energy into her advocacies for safe spaces and mental health, supporting others in their journeys through setbacks and self-discovery. Her work reminds us all that healing and growth don’t happen alone.
"Allowing myself the space to feel my emotions and seek the support I needed from people who mattered really gave me the strength to continue."
